Cab ban will just make it worse

SO, our merry band of councillors and associated persons of authority have decreed that minicabs should be banned from the High Street on Friday and Saturday nights, with only black cabs allowed into the town centre. The aim of this is apparently to disperse the thousands of revellers as quickly as possible with the minimum amount of fuss and opportunity for trouble, brawls and vandalism etc.

I wonder how many of the decision makers have actually been into the town centre late on a weekend evening and seen the amount of black cabs versus the white minicabs.

One also wonders where the minicabs will wait, drop people off or arrange to meet pick ups. Presumably they will be forced to congregate at the top of Lower High Street (I am sure the residents here will love this), on side roads off the ring road, or indeed on the ring road itself.

Does this not mean that the users of minicabs (black cabs being allegedly more expensive) will have to remain in the town centre longer while they find a lift home, as well as dispersing any trouble associated with inebriation further afield?

To remove people from the town centre as quickly as possible is a good idea, so why make it difficult!?

The proof of the pudding may be in the eating - well let us see this weekend if it is still a kebab in the back of a minicab.
