It’s not the taxi drivers who need to be tested

REGARDING the reports about cab drivers facing English tests (SA, December 19). I often travel and use VCars. I have experienced no problems being understood, nor did any of the VCars take me to a wrong destination.

And the drivers were Polish, Slovakian, Serbian and English, of course.

The drivers were all nice, clean, intelligent and helpful.

The people that have been complaining about cabbies from the European Union are probably jealous and racist, probably living off benefits, yet are jealous of people from EU working as cabbies over here six days a week, 10 hours a day. And sometimes seven days a week.

I know one cabbie who does just that in order to support his young family, pay rent, council tax, other bills and put bread and butter on the table.

Yes, action is needed to put long-term benefit seekers back to work.

Cabbies to face an English test? No need because the ones I've met spoke very good English, plus at least two or three other languages.
