Clubs back new taxi voucher scheme
Shellharbour clubs and pubs are supporting a transport program aiming to make it safer and easier to catch a taxi.
Eleven licensed premises have signed up to the taxi voucher scheme, which requires patrons to give their identification details to bar staff when booking a cab.
About 120 venues in Sydney are already using the scheme.
Shellharbour council road safety officer Jenny Davies says the program will reduce antisocial and drunken behaviour by patrons waiting for a taxi.
"The taxi voucher scheme is a harm minimisation strategy. Patrons that are requiring a taxi will sign up for a taxi voucher, this reduces risk to the taxi driver because we have their full details and can be contacted if an incident should occur," she said.
