DELRAY BEACH - Detectives this morning arrested a North Carolina man shortly after he robbed a Bank of America branch on East Atlantic Avenue.

Donald Hendricks, 46, had a cabbie drive him to the bank at 1001 E. Atlantic Ave., around 9:45 a.m., and wait with the meter running while he demanded money from a teller, according to Delray Beach Detective Gene Sapino.

He got back in the cab and paid the driver with the stolen cash to drop him off in the first block of Andrews Avenue, Sapino said.

Hendricks, who had a bicycle in the trunk of the cab, then pedaled to his room at the Bermuda Inn on South Ocean Boulevard, changed his clothes and headed back out.

Detectives saw him riding his bike across Atlantic Avenue, arrested him and charged him with robbery.

They found four rough drafts of a demand note in his motel room.

Hendricks, who was in the area for drug rehabilitation, told detectives he had relapsed and was trying to get money to go back into a program. He has a history of robbery and is currently on probation out of Georgia for grand theft, Sapino said.

Hendricks is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail.
