Elderly woman struck by taxi
An elderly woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a cab north of downtown this morning. Emergency crews were called to Eglinton Ave. W., just west of Avenue Rd. just after 11 a.m., after reports of a pedestrian struck, leaving the victim with head injuries, Toronto Ambulance Duty Officer Connie Christie said.
Paramedics found a woman in her 70s with serious injuries before taking her to the trauma centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Christie said.
Toronto police Traffic Services Branch, which is called in for serious collisions, is investigating.
The circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the victim was at a pedestrian crosswalk when she was struck, are still under investigation, Staff Sgt. Noel Lee said.
Eglinton has been closed in both directions between Heddington Ave. and Avenue Rd. as police investigate.
