WORCESTER USA — A city taxicab driver was robbed by two men, one of whom cut him in the neck with a sharp object.

The 56-year-old Yellow Cab driver, a Sutton resident, was robbed Sunday at 5:20 p.m. after responding to a dispatched call to 129 Chino Ave., according to Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst, a Police Department spokesman.

One of the robbers, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, sat directly behind the driver so the driver did not get a good look at him. The other man got in the cab, grabbed the victim around the neck and demanded cash. He then sliced the driver with “some sort of edged weapon” on the back of his neck, causing a shallow 5- to 6-inch-long wound, Sgt. Hazelhurst said.

After the driver handed over his money, the assailant with the weapon jumped out of the cab. The other man could not get out for some reason, and had to smash the door window to exit the taxi, the sergeant said.

The robbers fled on foot in opposite directions. The cab driver refused medical treatment, Sgt. Hazelhurst said.
