Cab driver loses licence after stabbing colleague during argument
An Ottawa taxi cab driver will have his licence temporarily suspended after he was charged with assault in the stabbing of a fellow cabbie during a heated dispute in October.
Faisal Hadi Dela, 30, agreed to the suspension yesterday in front of the city's licensing committee, pending a decision in criminal court.
A 30-year-old cab driver was stabbed in the shoulder, back, face and arms near 1660 Riverside Dr. on Oct. 18. There were no witnesses to the 2 a.m. incident and no weapon was found, although police said the victim had been stabbed with a sharp object. The victim was taken to hospital and later released.
Mr. Dela was charged with aggravated assault. He appeared in court Nov. 7 and pleaded not guilty.
BlueLine president and CEO Hanif Patni said his company will honour whatever decision the city's licensing committee makes.
