A DRUNKEN woman ran up a £74 taxi bill after a night out on the town and refused to pay it.

Audrey Gill turned up in the taxi outside Cambridge's Parkside police station after the cab driver she had summoned to take her to her Ely home decided to ask for his money up front, Cambridge magistrates were told.

Fifty-seven-year-old Gill, of Lantern Court, Ely, had made several stops before they began the journey.

The cabbie took Gill to the police station where officers noticed him "having problems with her". She was removed from the cab and later charged with being drunk and disorderly.

Yesterday (Tuesday, 21 November) Gill, who has an entrenched drink problem and is already subject to community supervision and a suspended prison sentence for other alcohol-related offending, admitted the offence. She was fined £100 with £50 court costs.
