Taxi man's diplomatic fare trade
The Argentine ambassador to Britain has visited Moray, after a chance meeting with an Elgin taxi driver.
Sandy Cooper made the invite after chatting to Federico Mirre at a function in London.
Now it is hoped the visit will help to build links between Moray businesses and their counterparts in Argentina.
The ambassador's two-day visit is alongside his wife, who has Scottish roots. They are touring distilleries, farms and wool manufacturers.
Mr Cooper said of the diplomatic invite: "Sitting right next to me at the function was His Excellency and I discovered he had never been to Scotland."
He said that he later got in contact with the ambassador.
"I wrote to them with samples of produce of Moray and he said he would love to come up," Mr Cooper said.
Ambassador Mirre told BBC Scotland: "It was my dream and my determination to come to Scotland.
"Scottish professionals came to Argentina in the 1840s, they worked very hard and contributed to the growth of Argentina in the golden years and left their mark.
"Sandy Cooper is a prominent member of the community. We kept a promise and we made it."
