A WIFE had to wait a day for police after a savage glass attack in which her husband lost the sight of one eye.

Noorjahan Mozumder claims there was no response to emergency calls on Saturday, October 28.

Vital evidence, she fears, may have been wiped out before any investigation started.

Khayrulalam Mozumder had been working for Trevicks car service in Jersey Road, Custom House.

Three teenagers had asked for a cab and problems started between about 7.20pm and 7.40pm.

Mr Mozumder, who has two young children and lives in Stratford, was attacked with a glass bottle. He has since lost the sight in one eye.

Noorjahan Mozumder said people called 999 but police did not get to them until the following evening.

"All the evidence was wiped out by Sunday," she said. "The glass bottle that my husband was hit with was not there any more.

"They could have attended the minicab firm, which was open until 12.30 that night. They didn't turn up until I called again."

She was first told her call could not be traced, and then that there may have been a mix-up between two incidents.

Officers investigating the incident at Plaistow CID have apologised for the delay.

Mrs Mozumder also said there was no fight and police had not yet taken a statement.

She said the teenagers had asked for a cab and her husband said it was not his turn but there were drivers outside.

The youngsters then allegedly kicked a car and threw a can because another driver could not take them.

Her husband heard the sound, came out of the office and the bottle was then thrown at him.

Mrs Mozumder added that doctors were deciding whether her husband's eye needed to be removed.

The couple have a 10-year-old daughter Ishrat and five-year-old son Shafi.

The suspects, described as three white males aged 16 to 18, were caught on CCTV as they made off south down Prince Regent Lane. Two then turned right into Mortlake Road.
