Cab driver suffers broken leg
A 41-year-old man was killed when the Ford Escort he was driving the wrong way on Groat Road crashed head-on into a taxi.
The Escort was traveling north in the southbound lanes of Groat near the River Valley Road exit.
“As he rounded the corner, he met head-on with a cab going south,” Eastcott said, adding the cabbie had no chance to avoid the car. “You wouldn’t be concerned that something’s going to be going around the corner, but the reaction time would be minimal.”
The impact sent the driver of the Escort, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, through the windshield, Eastcott said.
He died at the scene.
The 35-year-old taxi driver, who also wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, went to hospital with serious injuries, including a broken leg, Eastcott said.
Police were trying to figure out where and why the motorist entered head-on traffic. A median separates the lanes.
