A TAXI driver leapt from his moving car yesterday to escape two thugs who abducted him at knifepoint.

The 37-year-old cabbie was beaten and threatened with a blade after picking up the men outside Queen Street station, in Glasgow, at about 5.30am.

The thugs ordered him to drive to the Springburn district in the north of the city.

When he got there, he was attacked by both men and thrown into the back seat of his silver Toyota Avensis.

One of the yobs took the wheel and set off towards Cumbernauld.

But the taxi driver jumped from the car as it slowed at Stepps Roundabout on the A80, and ran to a nearby hotel to raise the alarm.

The traumatised driver was recovering at home last night. Police were still trying to trace his car.

The first suspect is described as white, aged about 22, and approximately 5ft 8in tall.

He was clean shaven with short dark hair, and wore a black jacket.

The second thug was wearing an off-white jacket and was aged about 25.

He is described as about 5ft 10in tall and clean-shaven, with short dark hair.

Detective Sergeant Gordon Pettigrew, leading the hunt for the suspects, said: "I would urge anyone who may have seen them, or who may have information, to call city centre CID on 0141 532 3000."
