Uniforms issued for taxi drivers
Local taxi drivers now have to wear a uniform when operating their vehicles for hire or reward. The requirement, effective from Monday, was announced by Minister of Tourism Charles Clifford at Friday’s Cabinet press briefing.
The official uniform consists of a palm tree patterned, blue camp shirt with a Cayman Islands Public Transport logo. Taxi drivers are encouraged to wear the shirt with khaki, black, navy or white trousers. Women taxi operators can also opt to wear skirts in those colours.
The issuing of the uniforms coincides with the completion of the public transport operators’ extensive service training. Both were paid for by the Department of Tourism as part of its Ministry–led product development and human capital development initiatives.
Licensed operators of good standing will receive three uniform shirts each free of charge. Additional tops can be bought from the Public Transport Unit.
According to Mr. Clifford both represent “a significant investment in the public transportation industry and… will lead to an improved customer service experience for our guests.”
The new regulation falls under the Traffic Law (2003 Revision).
