Police say taxi operator was targeted in Downtown shoot out
Investigators say the ongoing gang violence in sections of Craig Town and Arnett Gardens was at the heart of Thursday's shooting incident in downtown, Kingston.
Taxi operator Roderick Delmar was shot dead when three gunmen opened fire on his taxi cab in the heart of downtown, Kingston Thursday.
Four women who were passengers in his vehicle were shot and injured in the attack.
A senior investigator told the RJR News Centre Friday that they have received information that Mr. Delmar, a resident of Craig Town was the target of the attack.
In recent months, a number of taxi operators, who operate in the volatile Arnett Gardens community have been attacked and killed by rival factions.
The police say the injuries suffered by the women are not considered life threatening.
The incident triggered panic in downtown, Kingston Thursday forcing many businesses to pull down their shutters for hours in the busy commercial district.
The police say they have launched a manhunt for the suspects who exchanged gunfire with the police before escaping.
