TAXI FOR MCMILLAN
Capital fighter confident fiancee's father has him on road to stardom
WHEN Gary McMillan was looking to promote the start of his professional boxing career his fiancee's father came up with a fare idea.
Edinburgh taxi driver Peter Corsie put the welterweight fighter's image on the side of his Hackney and introduced him to the people of the capital city.
Now McMillan has signed a contract with manager Frank Maloney and is hoping his extended fame, with no boundary charges, sees advertising on wheels turn into ticket sales for his fights.
But first of all he'll christen his career in the paid ranks with a fight in London rather than the undercard of Alex Arthur's European super-featherweight defence against Sergio Palomo on November 4.
McMillan might train with Arthur and imitate the champ's willingness for self promotion but he doesn't want to step up from the amateurs and immediately live in the shadow of his fellow capital fighter.
He said: "Frank told me that he wanted it clearly established from the start that I was one of his stable of fighters.
