Police are appealing for witnesses to two attacks involving taxi drivers in Mitcham. A 42-year-old driver was called to a block of flats in Acacia Road on Monday, October 16 at about 10.30pm. Returning to his car after receiving no answer from the address, the driver saw four male youths running out of the flats towards his red T-registration Mitsubishi Carisma.
Two of the men approached the car on either side and began striking it with baseball bats, smashing the windscreen and denting the bodywork.

The driver was left badly shaken with almost £2,000 worth of damage to his vehicle.

All four men were black and aged between 17 and 19 years. Three wore dark hoodies and are between 5ft 3in and 5ft 10in tall. The fourth man was around 6ft tall, of skinny build and wearing dark clothing.

The second attack took place on Tuesday, October 17 at about 1.40am, when a cab driver was called to an address in Thrupp Close.

While the green R-registration Toyota Carina was parked outside the address, three people appeared from an alleyway.

One of them, a man aged about 22, opened the car door and got inside.

He then grabbed the 39-year-old driver around the throat and said: "Bring me the money. Bring me the money."

Shouting for police assistance, the victim began to drive the car away, at which point his attacker exited the car and ran off with his two companions. The victim sustained minor injuries to his throat in the attack.

The man who threatened the cab driver was a black male, about 5ft 10in tall with a soft-spoken London accent. He was wearing a black hoodie and a black baseball cap.

His accomplices were a 5ft 10in white man wearing a red hoodie and a black baseball cap, and a white woman wearing a pink hoodie, a white skirt and white trainers.

All three are described as being in their early 20s.
