Higher taxi cab fares OK’d in Ann Arbor

Half a dozen Ann Arbor cab drivers addressed the Ann Arbor City Council Monday urging them to increase taxi-cab rates to help offset rising fuel prices.

The council did agree to boost rates, under a plan recommended by a city committee.

The initial charge will increase from $2.50 to $3 for the first 1/7th of a mile.

The charge for subsequent 1/7th of a mile increments will also increase and a temporary 25 cents surcharge per trip added.
