Cabbie killed in crash with stolen SUV
Winnipeg's car-theftepidemic claimed another innocent victim Saturday when a taxi driver was killed in a crash with a stolen SUV.
The driver was identified as Antonio Lanzellotti. He and a passenger were heading down a street around 3:30 a.m. when the taxi was T-boned by a speeding, black Chevy Avalanche.
A witness said the SUV ran the red light and rammed the cab with such force that it literally "rolled right over it."
*A visibly shaken Andrew Go, working at a nearby gas station, said it was most awful thing he'd ever seen. The driver of the Avalanche, believed to be in his teens, was ejected from the vehicle, then struck by a passing car. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Three other occupants in the stolen vehicle, also believed to be youths, were taken to hospital in stable condition.
Police said the passenger in the cab is in stable condition in hospital.
