Four people were seriously injured when a taxi and a truck collided on Old Vereeniging road near the Thinasonke informal settlement, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

Inspector Jimmy Maboko said the taxi coming from Edenpark crashed into the truck coming along Old Vereeniging road at 4pm.

"All five taxi occupants including the driver were injured, two of them seriously. The truck driver and his passenger were also seriously injured," said Maboko.

The taxi passengers were rushed to the Union hospital in Alberton and the truck driver and his passenger to Natalspruit hospital.

Police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.
