'Don't use illegal mini-buses' warning
A TAXI driver today warned Sheffield New Year revellers of the dangers of using unlicensed minibuses not covered by insurance.
The Sheffield driver - who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals - said: "There are bogus operators in unmarked minibuses, with no identity at all, blatantly picking up paying passengers to take to airports and on nights out.
"They are also undercutting respectable and properly run operators because they are not paying the fees to be properly licensed.
"Myself and other legitimate business people have to pay out over £2,500 per year in order to run our businesses legally as taxis or on contract to the council.
"We have to have our vehicles inspected and serviced every six to eight weeks and we also have to have an operators licence - like bus companies - in order to run within the law."
