A NEW taxi firm has cleared the first of two hurdles in its bid to start operating from Westhoughton Industrial Estate, despite a 61-signature petition from residents.

Alexander Sudding and Victoria Grime have obtained planning permission from Bolton Council to use the D&M Commercials industrial unit off James Street as a control office from where up to 10 taxis could offer a 24-hour service. They will now have to apply for a licence.

Residents objected to the application, claiming the extra traffic and noise would be intolerable.
